Every year I do a passion project that showcases beauty through boudoir, and I am so excited for this one! They often say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, which I believe to be true. Beauty is different for everyone, what I think is beautiful someone does not, but that's the beautiful thing about Art, it's in the eye of the beholder.
One of the things that started my self love journey was knowing that the people who love me, love me the way I am. Even though I may not be happy with the way I see myself, they see me like this and love me none the less. So if they can love me, why can't I? My son doesn't care if I have a double chin, my stomach isn't bothering my husband, so why am I letting it bother me, if it doesn't bother them.
This is my husband's favorite picture from our Vow Renewal photo shoot in 2021. He loved our authentic smiles, and how close and cuddly we are because that is who we are on a daily basis, it captured us perfectly. The first thing I noticed was my double him, and I was so bummed that she didn't get a better angle of this pose because it really is a great picture. That is when I thought to myself, I wish I could see myself through his eyes. I wish I didn't see the flaws but instead only see the great things that he loves.
That is when I really kicked my self love journey in to gear, which of course lead me to focusing on boudoir, and the past year and a half half has been the best year honestly. Whenever I am having an off day and am feeling down about myself (because some days are harder then others) I remind myself that I don't see my husbands flaws when I look at him, I don't see the stress wrinkles on his forehead, or the grey hairs in his facial hair (all things I know he looks at) but instead I see the love in his eyes, the the rugged hardworking hands that hug my waist, and the smile that still makes my heart flutter.
If only we could see our self through our loved ones eye, we would love our self more. instead of focusing on the flaws we would notice all those little things that mean so much to them, the things that made them fall in love with us, or the things that they see on a daily basis and love us more for it. The way you crinkle your nose when you smell something funky, or the way that you snort when you laugh at something too hard, or the way you lower your eyes when your deep in thought. Those are the things that I want to capture and showcase. I want to show your beauty through their eyes.
How am I going to do that you ask? I have created an questionnaire to gather insight and information from a group of people. I will then take all the responses into consideration and that will influence the tone for the sessions. I will pick a few ladies from that group of people who participated in the survey to do a boudoir session with me to showcase their beauty through their (whoever completed the questionnaire) eyes.
I am really excited about this passion project. I look forward to hearing the responses, gaining insight but most importantly, I am excited to capture beautiful images to showcase beauty through our loved ones eyes. By doing so it will hopefully help us all on our self-love journey, by reminding us that we are beautiful just the way we are, and instead of focusing on our flaws, rather see all the things that truly make us beautiful.
